DELTA State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr Chiedu Ebie, has said that the government would continue to support and encourage communities whose activities are geared towards peace, progress and good governance.

Ebie, who made the promise at the 1st Igbodo Youth Leadership Summit organized by the Igbodo Development Union, IDU, said good orientation and attitudinal change were needed to move the state forward.

He commended the Igbodo Development Union for the summit which has as its theme: Why Consider Greener Pasture Outside The Country When There Are Endless Opportunities In Nigeria? and stressed that formal education was key to success.

Describing the ceremony as an “excellent assembly,” the Education Commissioner told participants drawn from Igbodo and six other neighbouring communities who were between the ages of 13 and 19 years, that hard work and self discipline were keys to making it in life.

The Obi of Igbodo Kingdom, HRM Ikechukwu Osedume, the President-General, IDU Worldwide, Deacon Mathew Okwaje and a major facilitator of the program, Mr Joe Mbulu, said the summit was borne out of the desire to see the younger ones achieve success in life, stressing that over the years there have been an increasing number of youths derailed largely because of inadequate career guidance and social support.
